10 tips for enjoying outdoor festivals at the Emlen Physick Estate, Cape May
Since the inaugural outdoor festival at the beautiful Emlen Physick Estate in Cape May, N.J., the Craft Beer & Crab Festival on Aug. 11, 2012, outdoor festivals on the estate have become a favorite way to spend an afternoon with family and friends. Featuring local craft beers, wine and spirits, as well as live music, delicious food and a family atmosphere, outdoor festivals at the Emlen Physick Estate are a great way to relax and have fun.

Here are 10 commonly asked questions and answers about MAC’s outdoor festivals to help you plan ahead and make the most of your good times.
- Is there a cost to attend this event?
Our festivals are FREE to attend. At each festival there are varying costs for food and beverages.
2. How much does the beer/wine/food cost?
Beer is $6, wine is $7, cocktails are $8. There are varying costs for food from vendors. At our August event, the Craft Beer, Music & Crab Festival, pulled pork, crab cakes, shrimp and crabs are available for purchase along with food vendors offering a variety of food options under $20.
3. Is this event kid-friendly?
Yes! All of our festivals are family-friendly. In addition to live music at the event, we offer a variety of kids activities.
4. Is this event pet-friendly?
The grounds of the Emlen Physick Estate are pet-friendly. Please curb your dog and make sure that your pet is well-behaved and on a leash. We have a complimentary dog water tent to help keep your pups hydrated and cool, and shade trees and grass are abundant. Keep in mind that pathways on the grounds are covered with clamshells that get very hot in the sun and may be uncomfortable for your pet to walk on.
5. Is this event cash only?
The event is mostly cash only, however some vendors do accept credit card sales. There is an ATM on site for cash sales.
6. Where is the Physick Estate located? Can I walk there?
The Physick Estate is located at 1048 Washington Street. It is a little over ½ a mile (approximately five (5) blocks or about a 10-minute walk) from the Washington Street Mall at Ocean Street (at the center of town). It is a pleasant walk or bicycle ride from most points in Cape May and no more than about a 40-minute walk from the farthest points in Cape May. Depending on your fitness and your location you can certainly walk.
7. Is there transportation?
We do offer several transportation options. Our red MAC trolleys will be providing a shuttle service throughout the day between the festival grounds and the Ocean Street end of the Washington Street mall in the center of town, near the Acme Market parking lot (paid parking), (check in at Washington Street Mall Information Booth for assistance if needed) and the Cape May Lutheran Church at 509 Pittsburgh Ave., on the east side of town, where there is free parking in the lot. This shuttle will pick-up and drop-off at 1048 Washington Street in front of the Physick Estate. It will loop approximately every 20 minutes. Cape May Carts also offers a free shuttle service that day from the festival grounds to the center of town, also departing approximately every 20 minutes. They pick-up and drop-off at the same location.
8. Where can I park my car?
There is free parking offered at the Cape May Elementary school parking lot on 921 Lafayette Street. This is located just two blocks away from the festival grounds. There is free parking at the Cape May Lutheran Church, 509 Pittsburgh Avenue, on the east side of town, with shuttle transport to the grounds. There is paid parking at the Acme parking lot at Ocean Street with shuttle service to the grounds.
9. How can I become a vendor at this event?
If you are interested in becoming a vendor for this event, please contact Janice Coyle at email@example.com. These events fill up fast so it is best to reach out in the beginning of the year! Vendors must sell handmade or original goods, or antiques/collectibles.
10. Who does this event benefit?
This event is a fundraiser for the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities (MAC). MAC is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to preservation, restoration, interpretation, and cultural enrichment of the Cape May Region for its residents and visitors. These festivals are some of our largest fundraisers for the year, helping support our free educational programs to area schools as well as assisting in our on-going preservation efforts to keep Cape May’s history alive.
