This immersive, 2-hour tour experience combines a guided tour by trolley of Cape May’s Historic District with a guided tour of the Physick House Museum, providing an in-depth look into Cape May history and architecture. Learn why Cape May is the only National Historic Landmark City in the nation as you appreciate the details of Cape May’s unique Victorian streetscapes via trolley. Take a guided tour of the first and second floors of the 1879 Physick House Museum, for a detailed look at Victorian architecture and the period. Built in 1879, the 18-room mansion is an architectural masterpiece built by famed American architect Frank Furness and one of the best examples of Victorian Stick Style architecture in the country. The tour includes a visit to the Carriage House Carroll Gallery Exhibit and begins and ends at the Ocean Street Trolley stop.

COMBINATION UNDERGROUND RAILROAD TROLLEY TOUR & THE HARRIET TUBMAN MUSEUM

Visit the renowned Harriet Tubman Museum of New Jersey that tells the story of this hero of the Underground Railroad and combine it with Cape May MAC’s and CCA’s Underground Railroad Trolley Tour that is part of the National Park Service’s Network to Freedom. The Harriet Tubman Museum officially opened in 2021 to national accolades. Cape May was part of the Underground Railroad and this combination tour tells the story of those dangerous days. Hear how legendary anti-slavery fighter, Harriet Tubman, walked these streets, as did prominent railroad businessman and former slave, Stephen Smith, whose railroad cars carried hundreds to freedom. Tour is co-sponsored by the Harriet Tubman Museum of New Jersey, Cape May MAC and Center for Community Arts (CCA). Some portions of this tour are not accessible.

Victorians of the late 19th century had wild notions about the passage from life to death and were fascinated by mystery and illusion. Board a Cape May MAC trolley and travel through the lovely Cape May Historic District. You’ll hear strange stories from Victorian Cape May history that are macabre, mysterious or just plain weird. The trolley stops at the 1879 Physick House Museum where you’ll visit select rooms and learn about the famous Harry Houdini who captivated Victorian audiences with his intricate escapes, Ionia, a Belgian beauty called the Goddess of Mystery, who Victorians adored for her spectacles of magic, and many more famous Victorian masters and mistresses of illusion. Whaling, wartime and wild weather. The remarkable maritime history of our seaside town has long defined the Cape May story. Board the trolley and rediscover the important places and natural phenomena that have shaped, literally and figuratively, the Cape May we know today. The trolley then stops at Fisherman’s Wharf for an up-close walking tour about Cape May’s commercial fishing industry on the docks at The Lobster House. Tour begins and ends at Washington Street Mall Information Booth. Tour is not accessible.

HISTORIC HAUNTS COMBO TOUR

Moonlight trolley tour

Take an evening trolley ride through the Historic District and hear stories of haunted Cape May. Step off the trolley at the Physick House Museum with your guide and see Cape May’s only Victorian house museum, reputed to be haunted, as you learn about Victorian Spiritualism. This tour combines a Ghosts of Cape May trolley tour with a visit to the Physick House. In the museum, guides will compare the methods of spirit contact used by the Victorians with those of today’s paranormal investigators. Selected rooms on both floors are included in the tour. Begins and ends at the Ocean Street trolley stop.

Cape May County vineyards are producing delicious wines and here is your chance to enjoy them with round-trip transportation via Cape May MAC trolley. Board the trolley at the Emlen Physick Estate, 1048 Washington St., and travel to Pier House in Cape May for a delicious lunch. Then it’s back on board the trolley for an afternoon of touring and sampling wine selections by vintners at Jessie Creek Winery and Natali Vineyards. Guests will receive a tour, tasting and souvenir glass at Jessie Creek Winery and a tasting with cheese and crackers at Natali Vineyards. This event is for adults ages 21 and over.
